In 1960 after serving his apprenticeship as watch and clockmaker. Frank Callaghan decided to open his first shop, he established Callaghan Jewellers at 23 Lower Main Street Buncrana. There he sold quality jewellery, watches,and diamonds whilst also servicing quality watches clocks and general jewellery.
His motto was “For Quality for Years” and that ethos has driven Callaghan Jewellers to its current position as on of the leading jewellers in the North West of Ireland.
In 1986 Frank’s second son Brendan joined the business after finishing a 3-year watchmaking course and receiving a diploma from the Irish Swiss Institute of Horology Dublin. Also in 1986 Brendan qualified as a retail Jeweller and received a diploma from the National Association of Goldsmiths London. In 1987, Brendan took over the business after the untimely death of his father. In 1989 Callaghan Jewellers purchased the old Urban Council offices and opened a new state of the art jewellery store at 42 Upper Main Street Buncrana, where the Business still operates from today.
In 2014 the 3rd generation of Callaghan Jewellers, Kate Callaghan joined the business after graduating from The National Association of Goldsmiths in London with a Distinction in Retail Jewellers as well as graduating in Antwerp as a Polished Diamond Grader.
Always eager to expand their knowledge Brendan and Kate have built up a strong network within the jewellery trade not only within Ireland but across Europe and the USA. They work closely with a number of leading designers and prominent members of the diamond trade in Antwerp and all around the world. With value, price and quality in mind, they travel regularly to Antwerp (The Diamond Capital). Their excellent skills and knowledge in diamond sourcing and grading are reflected in the price and range of high-class Diamond Jewellery, Engagement & Wedding Rings.
