How To Wear Your Wedding Ring

Congratulations on reaching this amazing milestone! Now that you have tied the knot with your significant other, or you are planning to, it is time to start thinking about how to properly wear your engagement and wedding ring. There are plenty of ways and styles you can do this. Of course, it all depends on your personal style. You can either go the traditional route or you can do something a little less traditional and more contemporary. No matter what your style is, here are some basic suggestions on how to wear your wedding ring.

On The Left Hand

This is the most common and traditional way to wear your engagement or wedding ring. People in the United States, France, the UK, Canada, Mexico, South Africa and several Asian countries subscribe to this tradition. Some historians attribute this lore to the ancient Egyptians because they believed humans had a strong vein that trailed from our left ring finger to our heart. Hence why everyone wears their engagement and wedding rings on their left ring finger.

On The Right Hand

Though this is very non-traditional, people still do it. For people who are native to Eastern European countries like Russia, Poland and Denmark, wearing the wedding or engagement ring on the right hand is a normal cultural custom. There are also some countries in which couples who are engaged will wear their rings on one hand. After saying their vows, they switch the rings to the other hand.

Wedding Ring, Then Your Engagement Ring

It is also common practice for people to stack their wedding and engagement rings on one finger. They do this by putting on their wedding rings first and then putting on the engagement ring. Most people will wear their engagement ring on the opposite hand and then when they walk down the aisle, they make the transition to the other hand.

Engagement Ring, Then Your Wedding Ring

This is also a very common way to wear your wedding ring. It also makes chronological sense since you get your engagement ring first and then you get the wedding ring. It can also be very symbolic of your love if you do it this way. Your engagement ring can symbolize the promise that is to come. When you finally exchange your vows and you receive your wedding ring, the promise that the engagement ring brings would have arrived. It is very sentimental.

Engagement Ring On One Finger, Wedding Ring On Another

This is a great option, especially if you are concerned that your wedding ring will not match your engagement ring. You could either wear your engagement ring on your left hand and your wedding band on your right. Of course, you can do it the other way around. Either way, this is also a great option if you are not in love with the idea of stacking rings on one finger. Do not think that there is only one way to wear a ring. It is all about personal preference and what your rings mean to you and your partner.
